Naturforsch. 41c, 959—962 (1986); received July 7, 1986 Lentinellus cochleatus, Basidiomycotina, Liquid Cultures, Fungal Volatiles, Fungal Terpenoids The basidiomycete Lentinellus cochleatus CBS 201.47 was cultivated on a defined synthetic liquid culture medium containing glucose (2% ), asparagine (0.15% ), malt extract (0.2% ), and mineral salts. 12 weeks old cultures produced a “sw eet” odour with an aniseor cinnamon-like note. 3 major volatiles could be identified from the steam distillates by their GC/MSand ’H NMR data. Predominant constituents were the acyclic sesquiterpene alcohols trans-nerolidol (41.4% ) and fokienol (14.8% ). 2,2-Dimethyl-6-formylchromene (6.1% ) is described for the first time as a natural product. Besides these, 15 minor constituents could be identified or chemically charac terized, respectively, the majority of them being sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and alcohols.

Lactarane type sesquiterpenoids as inhibitors of leukotriene biosynthesis and other, new metabolites from submerged cultures of Lentinellus cochleatus (Pers. ex Fr.) Karst.

Three known sesquiterpenoids of the lactarane and secolactarane type, deoxylactarorufin A (1), blennin A (2) and blennin C (3), have been obtained from cultures of Lentinellus cochleatus (Basidiomycetes) together with the new metabolites (Z)-2-chloro-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-propen-1-ol (4) and lentinellone (5), a protoilludane derivative. The structures were determined by spectroscopic investigat...

Lentinellic acid, a biologically active protoilludane derivative from Lentinellus species (Basidiomycetes).

A new antimicrobial and cytotoxic sesquiterpenoid, lentinellic acid, has been isolated from submerged cultures of Lentinellus ursinus and L. omphalodes. The structure of the antibiotic was elucidated by spectroscopic methods and a single crystal X-ray analysis. 1 may be formed biogenetically by condensation of a protoilludane aldehyde 4 with a malonate unit.

Biological Species Concepts in Eastern North American Populations of Lentinellus

As part of a biosystematic study of the Lentinellus ursinus species complex in eastern North America, field and herbarium specimens from North America, Central America, and Europe were examined. Crossing single basidiospore isolates demonstrated tetrapolar (bifactorial) mating systems. Three biological species are recognized as L. ursinus, L. angustifolius, and L. vulpinus. The production of gl...

Lepistirones, Major Volatile Metabolites from Liquid Cultures of Lepista irina (Basidiomycotina)

The basidiom ycete Lepista irina (F r.) Bigelow (strains CBS 366.47 and CBS 458.79) was cul tivated on a biom alt (2% )-liquid m edium for 28 days. The steam distillate was analyzed by G LC and G LC -M S. The structure elucidation o f the predom inant constituent resulted from spectroscopic m ethods, particularly from its l3C N M R spectrum , nuclear O verhauser en hancem ent 'H N M R data , ...
